Mah Jongg for Fun & Flexibility

Mah Jongg, the ancient Chinese game of winds, flowers, dragons and number tiles, is an intriguing game for 2 to 4 players involving luck, skill, sleuthing and strategy. We’ll begin with a few easy hands then, at each player’s own pace, slowly add complexity. Excitement builds through 20-minute rounds as players draw and trade tiles with each other...forming their own hands and defending against others. Suddenly someone completes a winning hand and calls out "Mah Jongg!" If you enjoy card games, there’s a good chance you’ll love Mah Jongg.

Dates: Four Tuesdays, February 1, 8, 15 and 22.

Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Location: Burlington Parks & Recreation’s Miller Center (on Goss Court, off North Avenue.)

Fee: $20 for four evenings, payable to Laurie onsite. (Laurie will pay site fee.)

Instructor: Laurie DiCesare, a naturalist / writer and avid Mah Jongg player, has been teaching Mah Jongg to Vermonters since 1996.

Please Note: If you have a Mah Jongg game and/or card table of your own, please bring it to show (and share?) Novices and “refreshers” are welcome. Advanced players may choose to join the class or play on their own at separate tables but still need to pay the $20 entry fee. There’s room for about 8 tables. Invite your friends!
